| Harvarald jarl, the ruler of a distant and obscure valley, has put out a call for heroes. A worm-curse has spread over Brynlökdöll as monsters descend from the mountains to raid the outlying settlements and drag away their inhabitants to a foul fate. The farmlands have been abandoned as fearful peasants flock to the jarl's fortified hall, whose food stores are slowly running out. Some witnesses say they even saw a fire-singing, sword-toothed, night-winged worm circle high above the valley to herald the jarl's imminent downfall. The jarl awaits spear-proud warriors and vikings of axe-fury to dispel the curse with sun-gleaming steel. Battle-fame and skald-glory will go to those who succeed, along with honey-gleaming gold! Many groups of adventurers undertake the voyage on serpent-slender ships to rescue Brynlökdöll from the monster invasion, and many ponder just how far they're willing to go for gold and glory. Can you trust the others who fight for the same goal as you? As the saying goes, sometimes "man is dragon to man." PLEASE NOTE: This game and The Hunt for the Brynlokdoll Worm (Part II), held in Night Slot II, are the same adventure. The game will likely last more than four hours, so we will have a break for supper and the auction, then continue in the night slot. The second half won't take a full four hours, so don't worry about having to stay up too late. PLEASE ALSO NOTE: This game will use the Vikings and Valkyries rules, the free conversion of the similarly free Mazes and Minotaurs game. (Both available online.) This is a thoroughly old-school ruleset, but is not a direct retroclone. If you wish to bring along your own 3rd or 4th level ADDKON character, please contact the gamemaster on site before the game as early as possible so there will be time to convert the character to V&V rules. Pre-generated characters will also be available, and you are also welcome to roll up your own 3rd level V&V character if you wish, the gamemaster will be happy to help you before the game. | |
